The Apostolic Penitentiary has announced that Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence for those participating in the Third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. In accordance with this, the Diocese of Imus Catholic Educational System, Inc. (DICES) disseminated a communications letter encouraging the community to celebrate World Day for Grandparents and Elderly Day on July 23, 2023, in which the entire community may participate in various physical and virtual activities.
The aforementioned activities include going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession), attending Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion, praying the 6 PM Rosary via the Batang DICES Facebook page with the prayer intention for Grandparents and the elderly, posting a picture with grandparents on social media with the hashtags #ElderlyAndGrandparents and #BatangDICESWorldGrandparentsDay2023, and providing love, care, and support to the elderly.
The plenary indulgence will be granted to grandparents, the elderly, and all the faithful who attend the solemn celebration presided over by the Pope in St. Peter's Basilica, as well as those who attend mass around the world. A plenary indulgence provides remission of the temporal punishment for forgiven offenses, which may be applied to oneself or to the souls in Purgatory.
